CAUKIN Studio is a collective of young architectural designers working on a variety of design and construction projects worldwide. The team began working together in 2015 when the very first project, Playscape, was completed in Cambodia. CAUKIN’s working practice seeks to tackle social, environmental and economical problems through beautiful, well-crafted design. By seeking collaboration and the active involvement of local communities we hope to make an impact on everyday lives and the architectural community as a whole. Our name is derived from the origins of our founding members, in Canada, the UK and Indonesia.

A graduate in textile design from the University of Brighton, Camille Walala established her studio and brand in East London in 2009 and has since evolved from textile-based work to art direction, interior design and large-scale civic art and installation projects. Drawing on influences including the Memphis Movement, the Ndebele tribe and Victor Vasarely, Walala has an irrepressible enthusiasm for playful, graphic patterns that invoke a smile. Her dedication to positivity, optimistic typography and bold use of pattern and colour have seen her transform urban landscapes across the world, and earned her clients ranging from Converse and Armani to Nintendo and Facebook.

The ethos behind our architecture is underpinned by a rigorous design process which always explores both context and form. We believe context is not just the physical surroundings but also the social, cultural and historical uniqueness of place. We strive to investigate these contextual facets through the development of relevant forms, with concepts and designs that challenge our clients, their brief and ambitions. Our architecture embraces light and investigates materiality; engendering an innate detail and craft in our built form.
