It is a workshop interested in the way in which things are designed, produced and work. Try to work on different scales and typologies at the same time. TERRAIN architects were established in 2011, in Tokyo, and are currently based inTokyo, Japan; and Kampala, Uganda. TERRAIN architects produces indigenous design solutions derived from our research into the specifics of each project, and into the availability of local materials and skills. TERRAIN architects believes its role is to explain to the users and their communities what is possible – how they may best utilize the potential of their ‘terrain’. For us, the term ’Terrain’ means a unity of the earth, the climate, the people, the time and the architecture.

TERROIR is a collective of architects and urbanists dedicated to producing work that increases the connection between people and the places they inhabit. With offices in Australia and Denmark, TERROIR engages in the world from opposite corners of it, bringing breadth and depth of experience and multiple perspectives on the fragility of our world and the need to care for it. TERROIR is a statement about the honour of being invited by others to work in their territory and the importance of seriously assessing if one can make a contribution before accepting. It is a responsibility to be working in different places, and to do so cannot be considered an inevitable right bestowed by a globalised economy.
