Our style isn’t the product of a priori theories or manifestos and our buildings should be viewed above all as syntheses of a process. Each project defines its own terms, in accordance with precise contextual parameters and the diverse information we gather. The process enables us to create interpretive frameworks that are constantly renewed, changing from one project to the next. By following this methodical approach, focused on the contextual attributes specific to each building, we avoid the pitfalls of mimicry and of “chameleon” design, lacking any clear and stable identity.

Our aim is to create quality architecture that is both contemporary and timeless. Each commission is approached as a new avenue of exploration, without preconceived ideas, formal a priori, or advance knowledge of the final result. Listening to clients and their specific needs is an integral part of our research. Each project begins again at zero, forcing us to constantly challenge ourselves.

mlzd wurde 1997 in Biel gegründet und steht für ein vielseitiges Architektenkollektiv, das mittlerweile auf über 30 Erste Preise bei internationalen Wettbewerben und auf über 40 gebaute Projekte zurückblicken kann. Die Arbeit des Büros umfasst dabei ein breites Spektrum. Zu den wichtigsten Arbeiten zählen unter anderem die Neugestaltung des Präsidentenraums der UNO-Vollversammlung in New York (2004), sowie die Erweiterungen des Historischen Museums Bern (2009) und des Stadtmuseums in Rapperswil (2011)
