巴瓦是个大器晚成的建筑师，1919年出生于斯里兰卡，年轻时曾经就读于英国剑桥大学法学院，毕业后原应和父亲一样成为人人称羡的律师。然而，在他27岁独自踏上为期一年半的世界旅行之后，突然有了想要创作属于自己的建筑的欲望，于是在将近30岁时，重新前往英国学习建筑。在巴瓦38岁（1957）时终于有了他的第一个作品，从此以后，他开启了其迟到的建筑创作生涯，直到2003年84岁过世为止
